Week 6  Day 3

what do you say or do
when you are frightened or awed
      when frightened
            we may run
            we may cry out
      when awed
we may whisper or exclaim our words
we may hold a breathless silence
in fear we feel
that fight or flight response

and when in awe we want
to hang on to the moment and repeat it

the holy is something like that
            the awareness of God's presence
            is something like that

                                            TEN BIG ONES
God's laws stand through time and survive all change.
                                               Exodus 20

1God spoke these words, saying:  2"I am the Lord your God,
who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3You shall have no other gods before Me.  4You
shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness
of anything that is in heaven above, or in the earth
beneath, or in the water under the earth;
5You shall not bow down to them nor serve them.
For I, the Lord, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the
fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations
of those who hate Me, 6but showing mercy to thousands, to
those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7You shall not take the name of God in vain, for the
Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.  9Six days
you shall labor and do your work, 10but the seventh day is
the Sabbath of the Lord your God.  In it you shall do no work:
nor your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female
servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within
your gates.  11 In six days the Lord made the heavens and
earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the
seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day
and hallowed it.
12Honor your father and your mother, that your days
may be long upon the land which the Lord is giving you.
        13You shall not murder.
        14You shall not commit adultery.
        15You shall not steal.
16You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall
not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male or female servant,
nor his ox, his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."

18All the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning
the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking;
when the
people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.
19They said to
Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear;
but let not God
speak with us, lest we die."  20Moses said to
the people, "Do
not fear; for God has come to test you, that
His fear may be
before you, so that you may not sin.''  21So
the people stood afar
off, but Moses drew near the thick
darkness where God was.
