Week 32   Day 4

Ezekiel feels the powerful presence of the Lord
the hand of the Lord is upon him
                bringing him out
                and setting him down

and then what is revealed to Ezekiel
    is powerful too--overwhelmingly so
he found himself in a valley of dry bones
                symbols of finality
                utter desolation

but the powerful presence of the Lord
    helped Ezekiel and helps us
                to see beyond what is
to the promise God has for us

the dry bones are like those experiences
from which we think we can never recover
                but God gives life again
                and God brings a resurrection
and God breathes a new spirit into us

    can dry bones live again
    you bet they can
when touched by the hand and spirit of God
                they sing and dance
                they praise and serve
they move like a mighty army

    God does that

A STONE HEART AND DRY BONES
Is there a cure for someone with this diagnosis?

                                         Ezekiel 36 & 37

23"I will sanctify My great name, and the nations shall know

that I am the Lord, when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.

24For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out

of all countries, and bring you into your own land.

25"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be

clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all

your idols.  26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit

within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and

give you a heart of flesh.  27 I will put My Spirit within you

and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep my

judgments and do them.  31You will remember your evil ways,

and loathe yourselves."

1The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out

in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the

valley; and it was full of bones.  2Behold, there were very

many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry.

3He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"  So

I answered, "O Lord God, You know."

4Again He said, "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them,

'O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!  5Thus says the Lord

God to these bones:  "Surely I will cause breath to enter you,

and you shall live.  6 I will put sinews on you and bring flesh

upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you

shall live.  Then you shall know that I am the Lord."'"

     7As I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling;

the bones came together, bone to bone.  8 Indeed, as I looked,

the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and skin covered

them over; but there was no breath in them.

9He said to me, "Prophesy to the breath and say, 'Thus

says the Lord God:  "Come from the four winds, O breath,

and breathe on these slain, that they may live."'"  10As I

prophesied breath came into them, and they lived, and stood

upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.

11Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the

whole house of Israel.  They indeed say, 'Our bones are dry,

our hope is lost!'  12Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the

Lord God:  "You shall know that I am the Lord, when I have

brought you up from your graves.  14 I will put My Spirit in

you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land.

I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it."'"
