Week 34   Day 7

Malachi tried to rouse the people

            to renewed devotion to God

            when their faith

            had grown old

God our Creator

               Good Shepherd

      is unloved

      worse yet

            the love which is rightfully God's

            is given elsewhere

And these attitudes toward God

            are passed on

            to our other relationships.

Throughout the prophets

            we have been noticing

            more and more

            the inclusive nature of God's love

God is not limited to "his people"

            but calls people

            of all nations

            to know him

The Old Testament prophecies

            contain many promises of God

            which give hope

            for the present and the future

            some point to a coming Messiah

            a Savior

            who would be both priest and king.

                       RIGHT WORSHIP;  RIGHT LIVING

               Unfaithful to God, unfaithful to each other;

                   loving God makes us love each other.

                                      Malachi 2, 3 & 4

10Have we not all one Father?  Has not one God created us?

     Why do we deal treacherously with one another?

     11Judah has profaned the Lord's holy institution:

     He has married the daughter of a foreign god.

     12May the Lord cut off from Jacob the man who does this,

     Yet brings an offering to the Lord of Hosts!

13And this is the second thing you do:

     You cover the altar with tears, with weeping and crying;

     So He does not regard the offering anymore,

     Nor receive it with goodwill from your hands.

     14Yet you say, "For what reason?"
has been witness b
etween you and the wife of your youth;

     She is your companion and your wife by covenant.

     16But did He not make them one?  And why one?

     He seeks godly offspring.  Therefore take heed to your spirit,

     And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.

    16The Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce,

     For it covers one's garment with violence.

17You have wearied the Lord; you say, "How have we wearied Him?"

     In that you say, "Everyone who does evil is good,

     And He delights in them," or, "Where is the God of justice?"

1"Behold, I send My messenger; he will prepare the way before Me.

     2Who can endure the day?  And stand when He appears?

     For He is like a refiner's fire and like launderers' soap.

     3He will sit as a refiner; He will purify the sons of Levi,

     That they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness.

     7Return to Me, says the Lord.  But you said, 'In what way?'

8 "Will a man rob God?  Yet you have robbed Me!  But you say,

     'In what way have we robbed You?'   In tithes and offerings.

     9You are cursed for you have robbed Me.

     10Bring all the tithes that there may be food in My house,

     Try Me now in this, if I will not open the windows of heaven

     And pour out such blessing there will not be room to receive it.

2"The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings;

     And you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.

     3You shall trample the wicked,

     For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet."
