Week 52   Day 2

John's telling of the vision swings back and forth

            between heaven and earth

                        between the glory of heaven

and the devastation of the earth

                        between lofty worship in heaven

and angels carrying out judgment on earth

And caught in the middle were the persecuted Christians

            still on earth but

longing to be on the other side

held in reproach on earth but

            praised and elevated in heaven.

There is joyful worship in heaven because justice is being done

God is getting what God deserves

the saints are getting what they deserve

and sinners are getting what they deserve

                        but hold on

                        there is still mercy

                        the door stands open.

                                         SEVEN SEALS

Horsemen, an earthquake, a "passover" mark

                                 and a crowd in heaven.

                                       Revelation 6 & 7

7When He opened the fourth seal, the fourth living creature

said, "Come and see."  8Behold, a pale horse.  The name of him

who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him.  Power

was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword,

with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

9When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls

of those who had been slain for the testimony of the word of God.

10They cried out, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You

judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"

11Then a white robe was given to each of them; and they were
told to rest a little while longer, until their number
 was completed.

    12When He opened the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake;

the sun became black as sackcloth, and the moon became like

blood.  13The stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops

its late figs when shaken by a mighty wind.  15And the kings of

the earth, the great men, the mighty men, every slave and free

man, hid in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains.

2Then another angel cried, saying, "Do not harm the earth

till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads."

4The number of those who were sealed was one hundred and

forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

9After these things, behold, a great multitude which no one

could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues,

stood before the throne and the Lamb, clothed with white robes,

with palm branches in their hands, 10and saying, "Salvation

belongs to our God and to the Lamb!"  11Angels stood around

the throne with the elders and the four living creatures.  They fell

on their faces and worshiped God, 12saying:  "Blessing and

glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and

might, be to our God forever and ever.  Amen."

13One of the elders answered, "Who are these in white robes,

and where did they come from?"  14 I said, "Sir, you know."

So he said, "These are the ones who come out of the great

tribulation, and washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb.

They are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night

in His temple.  He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.

16They shall neither hunger nor thirst anymore; 17for the Lamb

will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
