Week 36   Day 6

Jesus had a bright star at his birth

            and an eclipse of darkness

            at his death

he was born at night under bright lights

            and died during mid day

            under cover of darkness.

Jesus referred to himself throughout his ministry

            as the Son of Man

he was also called Son of David

            the Great Messiah

            the Anointed One

now as he is dying his enemies in jest call him

            King Jesus.

Jesus' kingdom of heaven is not a tangible place

we cannot see it with our natural eyes

but it is real and has outlasted

            every other kingdom on earth

the kingdom of heaven

            is anywhere

            and everywhere

                        that God reigns

            and willing subjects

            you and I

            lovingly obey

we honor King Jesus whenever we hear the words of God

            and practice them

            in humility and love.

                                       HIS BROKEN BODY

With enemies up close and friends far away, Jesus' died.

                                               Matthew 27

27Soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the

whole garrison.  28They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe

on Him.  29They twisted a crown of thorns, and put it on His

head, and a reed in His hand.  They bowed the knee before Him

and mocked, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"  30They spat on

Him, took the reed and struck Him on the head.  31Then they

took the robe off, and led Him away to be crucified.

32They found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name.  Him they

compelled to bear His cross.  33When they had come to a place

called Golgotha, 34they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall

to drink.  But when He had tasted it, He would not drink.

35Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments,

casting lots, which was spoken by the prophet:  "They divided

My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."

37They put over His head the accusation:

THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38Two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and

another on the left.  41The chief priests, mocking with the

scribes and elders, said, "If He is the King of Israel, let him

come down from the cross, and we will believe Him."

45From the sixth hour until the ninth there was darkness

over all the land.  46Then Jesus cried out with a loud voice,

saying, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

50Jesus cried out again, and yielded up His spirit.  51And

behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
The earth quaked, rocks were split, 52and the graves
opened; and many bodies of the saints were raised.
His resurrection, they went into the holy city
and appeared
to many.

54When the centurion and those with him guarding Jesus,

saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they

feared greatly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God!"

57At evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea,

named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of

Jesus.  58This man asked Pilate for the body of Jesus.  Pilate

commanded the body be given to him.  59When Joseph had

taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth; 60and laid

it in his new tomb hewn out of the rock.  He rolled a large stone

against the door, and departed.  61Mary Magdalene was

there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.
