Week 28   Day 2

Seven things God hates

         killing an innocent person

         a wicked heart

         chasing evil

         a dishonest witness

         discord among family and friends.

Where I grew up

         the girls were warned

         about the boys

Here in Proverbs

         it is the other way around

I recall only two groups of people

         that I was taught to stay away from and fear

One was the migrant farm men

         who lived about two miles

         farther out of town from us

The other group was the soldiers at Ft Indiantown Gap

         those lonesome, handsome guys

         who walked the city streets

         in their spiffy uniforms.

    Eyes, tongue, heart, head, hands, feet--shun evil.
                                      Proverbs 6 & 8

     16These six things the Lord hates,

Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

17A proud look,

A lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood,

18A heart that devises wicked plans,

Feet that are swift in running to evil,

19A false witness who speaks lies,

And one who sows discord among brethren.

     20My son, keep your father's command,

And do not forsake the law of your mother.

21Bind them upon your heart; tie them around your neck.

22When you roam, they will lead you;

When you sleep, they will keep you;

When you awake, they will speak with you.

    23The commandment is a lamp, and the law a light;

Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

24To keep you from the evil woman,

From the flattering tongue of a seductress.

25Do not lust after her beauty in your heart,

Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.

26By means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread;

And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life.

27Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared?

29So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife;

Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.

     6Listen, for I will speak of excellent things;

7My mouth will speak truth; wickedness is an abomination.

8All the words of my mouth are with righteousness;

Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.

9They are all plain to him who understands,

And right to those who find knowledge.

10Receive my instruction and knowledge rather than choice gold.

     12"I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,

And find out knowledge and discretion.

14Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom;

I am understanding, I have strength.

17 I love those who love me,

And those who seek me diligently will find me."
