Week 27   Day 2

The Psalmist knew

            that God loved

            the righteous

In the New Testament

            we learn from Jesus

            that God loves sinners too

which was news

            too good to be true

Many of the righteous

            could not

            would not

            believe it.

You want to know if there is a God?

Go out and look at

            the testimony of nature

            speaks in the heavens

            shouts on the waves

            and whispers in the breeze

The Psalms are filled

     with images from nature.

How wonderful is God!  How blest those who trust God!
                                        Psalms 84 & 86

     1How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts!

2My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord:

My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

     3The sparrow has found a home,

And the swallow a nest where she may lay her young--

Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

4Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;

They will still be praising You.

     5Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,

Whose heart is set on pilgrimage,

6As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring;

The rain also covers it with pools.

7They go from strength to strength;  each one before God in Zion.

     8Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer, give ear, O God of Jacob!

9Behold our shield, and look upon Your anointed.

     10For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

The Lord will give grace and glory;

No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!

     6Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer and my supplications.

7 In the day of trouble I call upon You, for You answer me.

     8Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord;

Nor are there any works like Your works.

9All nations whom You have made

Shall come and worship before You, and glorify Your name.

10For You are great, and do wondrous things.

     11Teach me Your way, O Lord;

I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name.

12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,

I will glorify Your name forevermore.

13For great is Your mercy toward me,

You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

     14 O God, the proud have risen against me,

A mob of violent men have sought my life.

15But You, O Lord, are full of compassion, and gracious,

Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
